Smith’s rise with Cincinnati Bearcats
James Smith’s Bearcats rolling through college season
JAMES Smith and his Cincinnati Bearcats team are ‘bowl eligible’ and inside USA Today’s top-25 for the first time since 2013.
What does that mean for the former Galen student and Wangaratta Rovers’ defender?
It means two things; that the Bearcats through the first six games of the season are undefeated and they have the chance to play off in the college bowl series, and that the Bearcats are ranked in the best 25 collegiate teams in the entire division one NCAA program.
There are six college bowls, and if the Bearcats continue this monumental run and finish atop of the American Athletic Conference then they will qualify for either the Peach, Feista or Cotton Bowls.
With Smith enjoying arguably his best football as the special teams’ punter, and the Bearcats starting the season 6-0, there is a good feeling in South-East Ohio.
“The feeling is amazing; the group is so cohesive and tight knit and everything is really up beat,” Smith said.
“Practice is definitely more focused with attention to detail and all the little things, because we need to keep getting better each week to keep this feeling going and ultimately play for championships.”
