Cy­clists ride the re­gion for an­nual event

MORE than 3000 bike rid­ers ped­alled into the Ru­ral City of Wan­garatta over the week­end when the Great Vic­to­rian Bike Ride came vis­ited Glen­rowan.

They en­joyed sights of na­ture by rid­ing 541 kilo­me­tres from Bright to Be­nalla via Ruther­glen and the ru­ral city over nine days.

Wan­garatta district lo­ca­tions in­cluded the day three ride last Mon­day that took in the scenery of Mi­lawa and Beech­worth, with cy­clists nav­i­gat­ing an 85km loop.

On Sat­ur­day they rode 95km from Yar­ra­wonga to Glen­rowan where par­tic­i­pants camped the night.

The event wound up yes­ter­day with a 52km stretch from Glen­rowan to Be­nalla where cy­clists rested their weary legs.

Mo­torists were asked to take heed of the high vol­ume of cy­clists on lo­cal roads, changed traf­fic con­di­tions and ex­tended travel times, ad­vis­ing road users to seek an al­ter­nate route where pos­si­ble.
