Cyclists ride the region for annual event
MORE than 3000 bike riders pedalled into the Rural City of Wangaratta over the weekend when the Great Victorian Bike Ride came visited Glenrowan.
They enjoyed sights of nature by riding 541 kilometres from Bright to Benalla via Rutherglen and the rural city over nine days.
Wangaratta district locations included the day three ride last Monday that took in the scenery of Milawa and Beechworth, with cyclists navigating an 85km loop.
On Saturday they rode 95km from Yarrawonga to Glenrowan where participants camped the night.
The event wound up yesterday with a 52km stretch from Glenrowan to Benalla where cyclists rested their weary legs.
Motorists were asked to take heed of the high volume of cyclists on local roads, changed traffic conditions and extended travel times, advising road users to seek an alternate route where possible.
