Grandma nabbed in late night in­ter­cept

A YAR­RA­WONGA woman, re­manded in cus­tody since Fri­day for drug and driv­ing of­fences al­legedly com­mit­ted in Wan­garatta, is ex­pected to ap­pear in Wan­garatta Mag­is­trates court this morn­ing.

Sergeant Damian Loi­ter­ton of Wan­garatta po­lice said the 44 year old grand­mother ap­peared briefly in court on Fri­day, but made no ap­pli­ca­tion for bail.

She was ar­rested in the early hours of Fri­day af­ter the Wan­garatta night shift di­vi­sional van crew in­ter­cepted her ve­hi­cle in Batch­e­lor Cres­cent.

Po­lice found the woman was un­li­censed and the ve­hi­cle un­road­wor­thy.

Po­lice searched the ve­hi­cle and al­legedly found a large amount of cannabis, metham­phetamine and as­sorted pills.

They also found that the driver was on bail for sim­i­lar of­fend­ing.

Po­lice im­pounded the ve­hi­cle.
