McCurdy closing in on victory in Ovens Valley
STATE MP Tim McCurdy (MLA, Ovens Valley) still appears to be in the box seat to claim victory after the first two rounds of preference votes were counted.
Mr McCurdy maintained a healthy lead after the preferences of Independent Ray Dyer, the first excluded candidate, and Greens candidate Vicki Berry, the second excluded candidate, were counted from the November 24 state election.
The Nationals member was on 17,045 followed by ALP candidate Kate Doyle on 8458, just ahead of Independent Tammy Atkins on 8082 and Dr Julian Fidge (Australian Country Party) on 3838.
Dr Fidge’s preferences were next to be counted with the majority expected to go to Mr McCurdy with each the other’s second preference on their respective how to vote cards.
Both candidates had Ms Doyle at four and Ms Atkins at five for their preferences.
