McCurdy clos­ing in on vic­tory in Ovens Val­ley

STATE MP Tim McCurdy (MLA, Ovens Val­ley) still ap­pears to be in the box seat to claim vic­tory af­ter the first two rounds of pref­er­ence votes were counted.

Mr McCurdy main­tained a healthy lead af­ter the pref­er­ences of In­de­pen­dent Ray Dyer, the first ex­cluded can­di­date, and Greens can­di­date Vicki Berry, the sec­ond ex­cluded can­di­date, were counted from the Novem­ber 24 state elec­tion.

The Na­tion­als mem­ber was on 17,045 fol­lowed by ALP can­di­date Kate Doyle on 8458, just ahead of In­de­pen­dent Tammy Atkins on 8082 and Dr Ju­lian Fidge (Aus­tralian Coun­try Party) on 3838.

Dr Fidge’s pref­er­ences were next to be counted with the ma­jor­ity ex­pected to go to Mr McCurdy with each the other’s sec­ond pref­er­ence on their re­spec­tive how to vote cards.

Both can­di­dates had Ms Doyle at four and Ms Atkins at five for their pref­er­ences.
