Com­mu­nity to get into car­ols spirit in Mer­riwa Park

WITH warm weather fore­cast and good crowds of around 2000 peo­ple ex­pected, all in­volved are look­ing for­ward to shar­ing the magic of Christ­mas with the lo­cal com­mu­nity at this Sun­day night’s Car­ols by Can­dle­light event.

The car­ols are be­ing run by the Li­ons Club of Wan­garatta in con­junc­tion with the Wan­garatta Con­cert Band, and prom­ises to be a com­mu­nity and fam­ily ori­ented night at the Verner Kent­mann sound­shell in Mer­riwa Park.

This year is the 30th an­niver­sary of the car­ols be­ing held at the sound­shell, which was built by the Li­ons Club of Wan­garatta.

Mem­bers of the Wan­garatta Con­cert Band will be joined by stu­dent mu­si­cians from Galen Col­lege, and those present will also be en­ter­tained by com­mu­nity and com­bined school choirs and a num­ber of in­di­vid­ual singing per­form­ers, in­clud­ing Al­i­son Comen­soli (who is singing dur­ing the pre-car­ols en­ter­tain­ment as well as dur­ing Car­ols by Can­dle­light it­self), Archie Gem­mill, Tahli Gib­son, Chloe Gib­son and more.

Mas­ter of cer­e­monies for the night will be lo­cal iden­tity Rick Harn­well, and Santa is also ex­pected to make an ap­pear­ance on the night.

Spon­sored by Hume Bank, Wan­garatta Chron­i­cle, Bendigo Bank and the Ru­ral City of Wan­garatta, Car­ols by Can­dle­light will be held at Mer­riwa Park this Sun­day, with pre-car­ols events tak­ing place from 6.30pm and the car­ols them­selves hap­pen­ing from 7.30pm, fol­lowed by the tra­di­tional fire­works dis­play at ap­prox­i­mately 9.30pm.
