Community to get into carols spirit in Merriwa Park
WITH warm weather forecast and good crowds of around 2000 people expected, all involved are looking forward to sharing the magic of Christmas with the local community at this Sunday night’s Carols by Candlelight event.
The carols are being run by the Lions Club of Wangaratta in conjunction with the Wangaratta Concert Band, and promises to be a community and family oriented night at the Verner Kentmann soundshell in Merriwa Park.
This year is the 30th anniversary of the carols being held at the soundshell, which was built by the Lions Club of Wangaratta.
Members of the Wangaratta Concert Band will be joined by student musicians from Galen College, and those present will also be entertained by community and combined school choirs and a number of individual singing performers, including Alison Comensoli (who is singing during the pre-carols entertainment as well as during Carols by Candlelight itself), Archie Gemmill, Tahli Gibson, Chloe Gibson and more.
Master of ceremonies for the night will be local identity Rick Harnwell, and Santa is also expected to make an appearance on the night.
Sponsored by Hume Bank, Wangaratta Chronicle, Bendigo Bank and the Rural City of Wangaratta, Carols by Candlelight will be held at Merriwa Park this Sunday, with pre-carols events taking place from 6.30pm and the carols themselves happening from 7.30pm, followed by the traditional fireworks display at approximately 9.30pm.
