Un­der 19 foot­ball comp to go ahead in 2019

AF­TER the re­lease of the of­fi­cial Ovens and King Foot­ball Net­ball League fix­ture ear­lier in the week the OKFNL is pleased to con­firm that the U19 com­pe­ti­tion will con­tinue into the 2019 sea­son in the same for­mat as the 2018 sea­son.

The com­pe­ti­tion is cur­rently made up of South­ern Suns, Snow Road Saints, Lon­dri­gan Bulls and Alpine Ea­gles pro­vides an op­por­tu­nity for up to 80 par­tic­i­pants to be in­volved in OKFNL foot­ball each week dur­ing the foot­ball sea­son.

The OKFNL and AFL North East Bor­der have worked with the clubs in­volved in the com­pe­ti­tion since the com­ple­tion of the 2018 sea­son in Septem­ber to en­sure that all in­volved will be able to field a team and re­main sus­tain­able for 2019, a sce­nario that the clubs and league are con­fi­dent will come to fruition.

The up­com­ing sea­son will also be used to con­tinue the dis­cus­sion around the best model for the leagues un­der­age com­pe­ti­tion, with face to face dis­cus­sions with the clubs al­ready un­der­way and set to con­tinue early in the New Year, along with neighbouring leagues in the re­gion.

“The aim of these dis­cus­sions will be to achieve the best out­come for, in par­tic­u­lar, the par­tic­i­pants in this age group, but to also en­sure that the com­pe­ti­tion model is man­age­able for the clubs and leagues in­volved,” League Man­ager Zac Hedin said.

“Over the years, those in­volved in OKFNL thirds have put in an in­cred­i­ble amount of work year in year out and that cer­tainly shouldn’t go un­recog­nised.”

The of­fi­cial OKFNL U19’s com­pe­ti­tion fix­ture is ex­pected to be re­leased early in the New Year.
