Free com­mu­nity cel­e­bra­tions of a movie and fire­works are again hop­ing to att­tract many fam­i­lies.

WANGARATTA’S Apex Park will be filled with thou­sands of rev­ellers for the count­down to 2019.

The an­nual fam­ily-friendly New Year’s Eve cel­e­bra­tion will take place on Mon­day, De­cem­ber 31 with chil­dren’s ac­tiv­i­ties, live mu­sic, food trucks, a moon­light movie and two spec­tac­u­lar sets of fire­works.

Live mu­sic from 7pm will fea­ture Scott and Amanda and the Junkmail Band, fol­lowed by the 9.15pm fire­works.

This year’s moon­light movie will have kids up on their feet and singing along to ‘The Great­est Show­man’ fol­lowed by the mid­night fire­works to wel­come in the New Year.

Food avail­able on the night will in­clude ice cream, wood fired piz­zas, bar­be­cue, na­chos and hot dogs.

“This is a fan­tas­tic op­por­tu­nity to cel­e­brate the New Year as a com­mu­nity,” said Ru­ral City of Wangaratta mayor Dean Rees.

“Spend the evening with fam­ily and friends, bring a pic­nic or pur­chase food by one of the local food ven­dors and en­joy the en­ter­tain­ment.”

The Sandhu fam­ily will be among the local fam­i­lies look­ing to en­joy the New Year’s Eve fes­tiv­i­ties in Apex Park.

Kul­vir Kaur Sandhu said her fam­ily at­tends the event ev­ery year.

“This will be our third New Year’s event in Wangaratta af­ter mov­ing from Mel­bourne,” she said.

“Ev­ery year our ex­tended fam­ily comes down from Mel­bourne and we have din­ner be­fore com­ing to the movie and fire­works.

“It’s such a nice change from the city and it’s al­ways a good event, we en­joy be­ing a part of it ev­ery year and love be­ing here in Wangaratta.”
