Challenge awaits Warriors in form of Gators
WANGARATTA Warriors’ 2019 fixture begins tomorrow with a critical match against Shepparton Gators.
The Gators currently sit on top of the North East conference with a 7-1 record and will travel to Wangaratta Indoor Sports and Aquatic Centre to do battle with the Warriors.
In contrast, the home side is hoping to finish the season off well.
With just four games in three weeks remaining to add to their one win from the 2018 side of the fixture, the Warriors will be hunting for a scalp.
Sam Waite, Liam Wright and Jake Bowen have enjoyed strong seasons so far for the Warriors and getting all three on to the court at the same time proves to be the key for Patrick Northey’s side to grab another win.
For the Lady Warriors, they will face the side two wins above them on the ladder and a side that defeated them by just 11 points, 61-50 on December 15.
The big three of the Lady Warriors in Jorja Reidy (14.4 points per game), Chloe Storer (12.86 ppg) and Alaana Northey (12.33 ppg) have enjoyed great seasons offensively, but without the height around the rim on defence the Warriors have leaked 69 points per game, 17 points difference to their average scoring of 52 points per contest.
After a break and a number of training sessions together in the New Year the Warriors will hit the floor Saturday night with the aim to run the Lady Gators off their feet.
After winning the conference premiership last season, the Warriors have won just one game so far in the 2018-19 season and will look to their final three matches to add to their tally and feature in finals.
