MARCIA MAKES IT LOOK EASY
THE sparkle of Studio 54 will be at Fringe World Festival this year in cabaret show Velvet and at the centre of this captivating fusion of disco, dance and circus will be the divine singer Marcia Hines.
Created by her manager Peter Rix and directed by Craig Ilott, Velvet has already proven a success on the east coast of Australia and in Edinburgh, which Hines said was a big relief.
“You go into rehearsals and hope to goodness that it’s going to be great,” she said.
“You applaud your fellow performers in rehearsals and then put it in front of an audience; I remember the reaction was astounding.
“You can rehearse as much as you want but the proof is in the pudding and that’s your audience.”
Hines said the show started with a young man entering the Studio 54esque venue, unsure of who he was or what he wanted out of life.
He finds himself after being introduced to some unusual characters.
“We have aerial acts, great disco music, fantastic lighting and costumes; it’s a wonderful ensemble,” Hines said.
