Parking laws to change

Wanneroo Times - - News - Lucy Jarvis

CHANGES to the City of Wanneroo’s parking local law are out for public comment until July 9.

The council agreed to advertise the draft changes at its May 9 meeting, which included replacing a clause about not parking cars on paths or in the middle of roads.

“The driver of a vehicle must not stop so that any portion of the vehicle is on a path, traffic island, median strip or painted island,” the amended clause said.

The clause would exclude bicycles and animals, and places where a driver is permitted to stop under the local law.

Changes were also made to the penalties for stopping on a path, traffic island, median strip or painted island; failure to park parallel to and as close to the kerb as is practicable; failure to park wholly within the bay; and failure to park headed in the direction of the movement of traffic.

At the May 2 briefing session, councillor Dianne Guise asked how the City would signify places where people could or could not park on the median strip.

Governance and legal manager Mustafa Yildiz said signs could indicate median strips where parking was permitted.
