Shelter extension protects passengers
PASSENGERS at Greenwood Station are better protected from the weather after the extension of the platform shelter.
The $1.8 million project extended the shelter by 50 metres to create 60 per cent coverage, as well as installing more CCTV cameras and better lighting.
One lane was closed on each side of the Mitchell Freeway while roof panels were installed using a crane during two early morning operations.
Assembly work was done off-site where possible or completed after hours to minimise the effect on passengers and traffic.
“Passengers will no longer have to crowd at one end of the platform to shelter from the hot sun in summer or the rain in winter,” Kingsley MLA Jessica Stojkovski said.
“This improvement, along with the increases to the CCTV and better lighting at the station, make travelling on public transport a safer and comfortable alternative to driving.”
