A $14.5 million aged care facility has been approved in Marangaroo.

Italian Aged Care will build the three-storey, 84-bed building next to its existing facility on the corner of Wanneroo Road and Marangaroo Drive.

The City of Wanneroo supported the application subject to 19 conditions, which was endorsed by the Metro North West Joint Development Panel on September 1.

A report by the City said the proposal generally met requirements of the District Planning Scheme and draft State Planning Policy.

It was also satisfied with parking, traffic, noise and clearing of vegetation despite objections from a nearby resident.

The application was forwarded to the Office of the Government Architect, which raised issues about the design, including it not appearing consistent with the existing facility and lack of landscaping, but the City believed it met the overall intent of the policy.

KPA Architects director Todd Paterson said the development would “address the ageing population” and featured a modern design using contrasting materials.

“It’s not trying to replicate the existing aged care facility,” he said.

It was approved by the panel subject to conditions, with councillor Russell Driver describing it as good for the community and Cr Frank Cvitan believing it blended in well.

Conditions include a revised acoustic report being submitted to Main Roads prior to construction and one shade tree to be planted for every four bays in the parking area.
