THE WA Sym­phony Or­ches­tra will cel­e­brate 90 years in 2018 and an im­pres­sive pro­gram has been an­nounced to mark the mile­stone.

There will be 75 per­for­mances, rang­ing from Richard Wag­ner’s ground­break­ing opera Tris­tan und Isolde to the Fes­ti­val of Cham­ber Mu­sic, com­pris­ing 12 con­certs over two days at Perth Con­cert Hall.

Prin­ci­pal con­duc­tor Asher Fisch (whose con­tract has been ex­tended un­til 2023) has pro­grammed the sea­son to be­gin a month ear­lier than usual, be­gin­ning in Fe­bru­ary with WASO’s Favourites, a spe­cial con­cert fea­tur­ing the ever-pop­u­lar Beethoven’s Fifth Sym­phony and a host of the or­ches­tra’s favourite WA artists.

In­vited guest artists across the year will in­clude French cel­list Gau­tier Ca­pu­con and pi­anist JeanYves Thibaudet, who will per­form to­gether in a world pre­miere, pi­anists Cedric Tiberghien and In­grid Fliter, cel­list Pablo Fer­ran­dez and vi­o­lin­ist Veronika Eberle.

Spe­cial event con­certs on the pro­gram are col­lab­o­ra­tions with Eskimo Joe and Katie Noo­nan, Star Wars: A New Hope – In Con­cert, A Sym­phonic Tribute to Comic-Con, Last Night at the Proms and Han­del’s Mes­siah.
