THE WA Symphony Orchestra will celebrate 90 years in 2018 and an impressive program has been announced to mark the milestone.
There will be 75 performances, ranging from Richard Wagner’s groundbreaking opera Tristan und Isolde to the Festival of Chamber Music, comprising 12 concerts over two days at Perth Concert Hall.
Principal conductor Asher Fisch (whose contract has been extended until 2023) has programmed the season to begin a month earlier than usual, beginning in February with WASO’s Favourites, a special concert featuring the ever-popular Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony and a host of the orchestra’s favourite WA artists.
Invited guest artists across the year will include French cellist Gautier Capucon and pianist JeanYves Thibaudet, who will perform together in a world premiere, pianists Cedric Tiberghien and Ingrid Fliter, cellist Pablo Ferrandez and violinist Veronika Eberle.
Special event concerts on the program are collaborations with Eskimo Joe and Katie Noonan, Star Wars: A New Hope – In Concert, A Symphonic Tribute to Comic-Con, Last Night at the Proms and Handel’s Messiah.
