Cycle group beats goal

Wanneroo Times - - News - Laura Pond

TWO years after pledging to cycle across Australia when his friend was cancer-free, Kingsley resident Cody Hudson is preparing to do just that.

“My friend Josh Gliddon was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015 and as he was going through his chemo treatment, we sat down for a beer,” he said.

“I said to him, ‘When you’re given the all-clear, we’ll ride across Australia as a celebration. What do you think?’.

“It’s something I’d been thinking of for a while and it seemed like a great opportunity to pursue it.”

The pair are being joined by friends Matt Carle, also of Kingsley, Woodvale’s Seb Dearle, as well as Mark Westbrook, Ian Parsons and Byron Sniffen for the 25-day journey from Melbourne to Perth starting on September 27.

They aimed to raise $20,000 for the Cure Brain Cancer Foundation during their Tour for a Cure but have surpassed $40,000 and are now hoping to reach $50,000.

“The cause is important as we don’t want others to have to go through the ordeal that Josh did,” Mr Hudson said.

“Ideally a cure would be found in the near future and we’d like our funds to go towards research in helping find that cure.”

He encouraged people to support not just the fight against the disease but Mr Gliddon’s determination in overcoming it.

“Josh has provided so much inspiration to all of us with his attitude and determination in beating cancer,” he said.

The group has been training since earlier this year and Mr Hudson said he was looking forward to take on the challenge with his friends.
