New school on way

BANKSIA Grove is set to get an­other $22 mil­lion pri­mary school in 2020, with tem­po­rary class­rooms open­ing in 2019 for the youngest stu­dents.

West Swan MLA Rita Saf­fi­oti wel­comed the State Gov­ern­ment an­nounce­ment of the Gran­dis Boule­vard school to ser­vice the east­ern part of the sub­urb.

Ms Saf­fi­oti said a Banksia Grove east pri­mary school was one of her key elec­tion com­mit­ments.

“This is the de­liv­ery of a key elec­tion com­mit­ment for the grow­ing area,” she said.

“It re­flects that ed­u­ca­tion is a key pri­or­ity for our gov­ern­ment.”

Con­struc­tion is due to start this year, with tem­po­rary fa­cil­i­ties for the first stu­dents in kinder­garten and pre-pri­mary to use in 2019.

Per­ma­nent fa­cil­i­ties, due to open in Fe­bru­ary 2020, will in­clude an ad­min­is­tra­tion build­ing, li­brary, staff room, early child­hood build­ing, three gen­eral class­room build­ings, a cov­ered assem­bly area, canteen, mu­sic room, hard courts, oval and park­ing ar­eas.

An early child­hood fa­cil­ity will be on­site as well.

Ed­u­ca­tion Min­is­ter Sue Ellery and West Swan MLA Rita Saf­fi­oti pro­mote the new school.
