Chance to dine with rugby legend
A RUGBY league legend is headed to the northern suburbs to help a Heathridge junior club.
Joondalup Giants Rugby League Club will host former player and television commentator Darren Lockyer for a fundraising sportsman’s dinner on April 18.
Having played for the Brisbane Broncos in the NRL, Queensland in State of Origin and Australian Kangaroos in 59 international Test matches, Lockyer is considered one of the greatest players of all time.
During his 17-year career he set many records for his club, state and country, including most NRL appearances, most State of Origin appearances, most games as captain and most tries for the Australian team.
Guests at the Joondalup Resort poolside event can hear from Lockyer about his career, with a question and answer forum and opportunities for a meet and greet, photos and to get things signed.
There will also be auctions and raffles with prizes including signed memorabilia and holiday packages.
Tickets are $120 per person or $1100 for a table of 10, including a three-course meal and two-hour drinks package.
“Funds raised will go towards new training equipment for the juniors and ensuring we have a successful end of season,” juniors president Gregg Pearson said.
“We want to provide these kids as many opportunities as possible and retain them in the club.
“Grassroots sports is the most important level of all sports; without a successful grassroots campaign we have no senior teams.”
