I HAVE to agree with some recent correspondents about the Hester Avenue-freeway single lane entry ramps.
How Main Roads came up with this design is mindboggling.
The queue of vehicles this morning (Wednesday, April 6) stretched back to the Connolly Drive roundabout.
The vast, vast majority of the population who will use this entry live to the west and north west of the freeway.
Why on earth would you need two lanes continuing straight on eastbound to Wanneroo Road and only one lane entering the freeway? Why would westbound traffic from Wanneroo Road need its own dedicated turning lane at the expense of a second turning lane for eastbound traffic?
Did they not learn anything from having to redesign the Burns Beach Road interchange when that was the end of the freeway?
No doubt Hester Avenue will have to be redesigned at great taxpayer expense.
The solution would be to replace the westbound turning lane with a give way sign and have two lanes turning on to the freeway from the west side.
