Prize pool a big draw

LO­CAL artists are en­cour­aged to en­ter this year’s com­mu­nity art ex­hi­bi­tion, which has a prize pool of more than $8000.

Entries for the City of Joon­dalup event close at 5pm on April 29, with the ex­hibit be­ing held in The Great Space at Lake­side Joon­dalup Shop­ping City be­tween June 10 and 22.

The ex­hi­bi­tion is open to City of Joon­dalup res­i­dents or mem­bers of a not-for-profit vis­ual art as­so­ci­a­tion op­er­at­ing within the City.

Prizes in­clude most out­stand­ing art­work ($1500), best paint­ing, works on pa­per, three­d­i­men­sional works, pho­to­me­dia and tex­tiles ($1000 each), arts in fo­cus and cel­e­brat­ing Joon­dalup ($500 each) and the stu­dent award ($250 voucher).

Art­works will be judged by an ex­ter­nal panel of ex­pe­ri­enced vis­ual art prac­ti­tion­ers and arts in­dus­try pro­fes­sion­als.

There will also be a $500 popular choice award for the art­work that re­ceives the most pub­lic votes dur­ing the ex­hi­bi­tion.

As part of the ex­hi­bi­tion, one artist may be com­mis­sioned to pro­duce an art­work for the Joon­dalup Li­brary bill­board project and an­other artist will be in­vited to hold a solo ex­hi­bi­tion at the Joon­dalup Art Gallery as part of the Arts In Fo­cus pro­gram.
