Lions still undefeated

SUBIACO 15.9.99

WEST PERTH 10.6.66

A CROWD reported to be over 5000 people enjoyed excellent conditions celebrating the annual International Round game at Joondalup between West Perth and Subiaco.

West Perth were bold but just could not match the class and skills of a powerful Subiaco side that continued their undefeated run with a 33-point victory, 15.9 (99) to 10.6 (66).

Five goals each to Lachlan Delahunty and newcomer Ryan Borchet was too much for a West Perth side that started very well and led at quarter-time but could not withstand the pressure that Subiaco brings to the contest.

A tough battle as always between these sides saw only seven points the gap at half-time, but then the Lions roared into life, producing a six-goal third quarter to put the game out of reach.

Both teams have outstanding midfields and this battle was a highlight, with Black, Nelson and Meadows all contributing strongly, but the usual suspects for Subiaco in Phelan, Horsley, Deluca and Kitchin were slick and the Subiaco forward line was better able to capitalise on the supply from the midfield.

Andrew Strijk continued his good form in attack for the Falcons with another four goals, but overall they just couldn’t match the all- round depth and power of the undefeated Subiaco outfit.
