A surf machine and pirate-themed golf courses could fill the former The Great Escape site at Hillarys Boat Harbour.

PIRATES could be taking over the former The Great Escape site at Hillarys Boat Harbour.

The $5 million development would feature two 18-hole piratethemed adventure golf courses and a FlowRider Double surf machine set in a themed and animated tropical landscape including a pirate ship, lagoons and erupting volcano.

The development, from Pirate’s Cove Adventure Golf, is with the WA Planning Commission for approval but Wyllie Group said it had already received support in principle from the Department of Transport and the City of Joondalup.

Once approved, construction works would start later this year and be done in three stages to ensure the facility opened for the 2019 summer holidays.

Pirate’s Cove directors said this should mean the golf courses would open in March.
