Playtime goes back to nature

Wanneroo Times - - NEWS -

MADELEY Primary School has opened its nature play space, where all 540 students can play between classes.

It is called the Madeley Waabinup, which in Noongar means “the place where playing happens continuously that belongs to Madeley”.

Principal Lainie Beccegato and P&C president Peter Withnell did the first plantings at the official opening on September 10.

Deputy principal Libby Clark said the school P&C had been fundraising and the school had set funds aside from its annual budget for a few years to build the $105,000 facility.

They received support from Northern Suburbs Men’s Shed and the Rotary Club of Wanneroo, as well as local businesses and politicians, with Girrawheen MLA Margaret Quirk donating a tree and Cowan MHR Anne Aly donating buddy benches.

“Buddy Benches are such a great way to create a little bit more kindness and friendship in the playground, making sure none of our kids feel isolated,” Dr Aly said.
