Roos’ batting collapses to stingy Freo attack
FREMANTLE comprehensively dismantled Wanneroo on day 2, bowling the Roos out for a miserly 66 to secure an important first-innings victory on Saturday at Stevens Reserve.
After starting the day precariously placed at 530, Wanneroo’s run chase fell into complete chaos almost immediately.
Matthew Spoors continued to be a rock at the top of the order for the Roos as wickets fell left, right and centre.
Without Scorchers paceman Jhye Richardson, Fremantle’s Liam Dallimore, Josh Chojnowski and Zach Ferris picked up the slack and completely dominated the Roos’ batting-line up.
The trio took the final five wickets for an amazingly stingy 36 runs, securing the first-inning win.
After bowling the Roos out in just 34 overs, Fremantle decided to go back in to bat to nab an outright win.
The home side posted a solid score of 173 after just 58 overs, with Sam Whiteman and Daniel Kennedy top-scoring with 43 and 41 respectively.
Jack Cattrall boosted his bowling stats in the second innings for the Roos, snaring a fivewicket haul as time ran out for both sides, leaving Fremantle victorious in the first innings.
Fremantle will take on Bayswater Morley at Stevens Reserve in round 6, while Wanneroo will battle it out against Mt Lawley at Breckler Park.
