Time to check security fencing
WITH summer approaching, the City of Joondalup has urged residents with a pool or spa to ensure security gates and fences meet safety requirements.
The City is home to more than 22,200 privately-owned swimming pools and spas and is required by State legislation to inspect these at least once every four years, as well as carry out re-inspections where modifications are required.
In a statement the City said drowning was the single biggest cause of accidental death among children under five years old and it was important every resident took responsibility to make sure their pool or spa complied with current safety regulations.
Safety requirements include having pools and spas being fully surrounded by complying barriers, pool fences being 1.2m high and selfclosing gates.
