Riches to roads
THE 2021-22 Federal Budget included more $24 million for road projects in the northern suburbs.
It included $7.6 million to widen Wanneroo Road between Dunstan and Romeo roads in Nowergup, and $2.5 million to upgrade Flynn Drive in Neerabup.
Pearce MHR Christian Porter said the projects would make roads safer, reducing travel times, and create jobs.
“Journeys along Wanneroo Road between Dustan Road and Romeo Road will be faster with the creation of an additional lane,” he said.
The budget also listed funds for existing projects, including $8.5 million for the $215 million 5.6km Mitchell Freeway extension from Hester Avenue to Romeo Road.
The Federal and State governments planned to split the overall cost, with construction due to finish in late 2022.
Another $6 million was allocated to the $65 million Wanneroo Road-Joondalup Drive interchange, which finished 30 per cent over budget in December.
The State Government also promised $20 million to upgrade Flynn Drive in the lead-up to the March election.
