JOONDALUP detectives have charged a Wanneroo man (26) for allegedly firing ‘gel blaster’ projectiles at pedestrians in Craigie on Tuesday.

Police will allege a vehicle slowed down on Camberwarra Drive and the front passenger fired several gel projectiles from a ‘gel blaster’ type of firearm at a man and his young son about 5pm on September 4 as they got out of their car.

“The man was struck by the projectiles in the chest and stomach area,” Senior Constable Mick Slaughter said. “The vehicle drove away without stopping.

“A short time later, the same vehicle approached a man and woman walking their dog along Camberwarra Drive, firing from the ‘gel blaster’.

“One of the projectiles struck the woman’s shoulder while another struck the upper arm of the man.

“Detectives located the vehicle that was involved in the incidents at an address in Wanneroo.”

Detectives charged the man with three counts of discharging a firearm to the danger of, or to cause fear to, the public and two counts of common assault.

Other charges included common assault in circumstances of aggravation, cannabis possession and possessing drug paraphernalia. The man is due to appear in Joondalup Magistrates Court on September 28.

Detectives are still investigating to identify the front seat passenger and would like to speak to anyone who was in the area.
