Treasured works of art on show
TREASURED – an exhibition celebrating the spirit of curiosity and act of discovery – is on display at the Wanneroo Library and Cultural Centre.
The City of Wanneroo exhibition shifts away from traditional ideas of treasure to look at the natural environment, heritage and art.
The exhibition features artworks by Judy Rogers, Leesa Padget, Wade Taylor and Claire Davenhall, linking in shipwrecks, the ocean, botany and the natural world.
As well as paintings and sculptures, maps from the Community History Centre and museum objects are on display.
There is also a range of activities and workshops accompanying the exhibition, including botanical drawing and macro photography workshops.
Treasured will run until October 6 as part of the ‘Find Your Treasure’ series at the centre, which includes an interactive children’s exhibition, Pirate’s Lair, in the conference room.
Children can take part in craft activities, read books on exploration and see a 3.5m pirate ship built and decorated by community members.
The Landsdale-based Northern Suburbs Men’s Shed made treasure chests that accompany the ship.
The Find Your Treasure theme tied in with Children’s Book Week.
Middle and upper primary school students have attended sessions with authors and younger children have taken part in storytime.
