Mayor’s Column – Hon. Albert Jacob JP
The City is again proud to sponsor the Joondalup Christmas Lunch in 2018, to be held on Tuesday 25 December at Central Park, Joondalup. This free annual event for people who would otherwise spend Christmas Day alone has grown to become one of the biggest of its kind in Perth. Organised by local church groups and volunteers, about 500 guests – from a variety of backgrounds including the homeless, new arrivals in Australia, people with financial difficulties, those who have lost their partners and those without families – will come together for a traditional Christmas meal, live entertainment and Christmas Carols. Guest registrations and more information at joondalupchristmaslunch.com or on 0466 252 076.

Three for shade
Shade sails will be installed at three of the City’s playgrounds later this month at Burns Beach Park (Burns Beach), Tom Simpson Park – South (Mullaloo) and Delamere Park (Currambine). The installation of sail structures at three very popular and highly utilised playgrounds is a win for the local community, resulting in greater opportunities to utilise the facilities, particularly in summer months. While natural shading will always be preferable given the high costs of installing and maintaining artificial shade, there are some circumstances where this is not a practical solution and exploring the option of sail structures is required. The three playgrounds will be unavailable for use during the construction period and the public will be informed via onsite signage.
On behalf of the City and its Council, I’d like to wish you and your family and friends a safe and Happy Christmas. For many people of faith Christmas Day is one of the most important days of the year and while it means different things to different people, the spirit of peace, joy and love remains a common thread.
