Boxing Day death charge

Wanneroo Weekender - - News - Tyler Brown

A DUNCRAIG man charged with murdering another man at a northern suburbs home on Boxing Day will remain in custody for another 11 weeks.

Jason John Burt (39) appeared in the Stirling Gardens Magistrates Court yesterday via video link from Hakea Prison.

He has been charged with murder after an altercation at a Duncraig home.

Police were called to the Davallia Road home about 10pm on December 26 after they received reports of a fight between two men, who they alleged were known to each other but not related.

A 68-year-old Duncraig man was taken to Royal Perth Hospital after the incident but died soon after.

Mr Burt’s lawyer said this was the accused’s first time in this court after his first appearance at Joondalup Magistrates Court on December 28.

The prosecutor said the State would be applying to adjourn the matter to March, which Mr Burt’s lawyer did not object to.

Registrar Natalie Whitby adjourned the matter to March 27 for mention only and said Mr Burt would be remanded in custody until then.

“I understand, Your Honour,” Mr Burt said.

The Davallia Road property is also believed to be linked to a previous murder 18 years ago by a different man who lived at the address.

In 2000, a man who was renting a granny flat at the back of the property bludgeoned to death his former girlfriend – a mother-oftwo – in her Hamersley home.
