Historical significance and a unique family home

-

ith its fascinating history and quaint character, number 21 Kraft Crescent Drouin is a unique property.

Dating back to c1947, the residence is only one of six remaining dwellings in the Baw Baw shire, originally built for the Kraft Walker Cheese employees.

Historically, the houses illustrate the importance of the dairy industry to the development and prosperity of Drouin, in particular the post war era.

These modest timber houses named ‘Flat Tops’, because of their low-pitched skillion roofs, were imported as kits from either Tasmania or New Zealand.

The original design was a basic square layout with a central recessed porch, tall multi-paned casement windows set into the corner of the building.

These features are still found in the front section of 21 Kraft Crescent.

Updated and extended, the home now includes four bedrooms, the main bedroom on the second level with an ensuite, home office, spacious living room, family/games room and a fully renovated, modern kitchen.

A double garage with internal access, outdoor deck and two balconies are further inclusions.

Polished floorboards are found in the entrance and continue through to the living room, positioned off to the left.

This inviting room includes a solid fuel heater, air conditioner and those charming corner windows.

To the right of the entry, a passageway leads to a study nook, bedrooms two and three with built-in robes, a separate toilet and the contemporary styled bathroom.

Adjoining the entrance hall is the kitchen and dining area.

Black stone bench tops, grey cabinetry and a lovely tiled splashback are fresh and modern.

Stainless steel appliances comprise gas hot plates, double wall oven and a dishwasher.

A large walk-in pantry leads to the laundry.

More recently, a substantial extension has created the games/family room, home office, a fourth bedroom or studio and the main bedroom on the second level.

Rough sawn timbers and corrugated iron wall panelling have crafted a very unique look to the games room.

A sliding door leads to the outdoor deck.

The main bedroom is private and spacious with a walk-in robe, ensuite and two balconies, facing north and south with pleasant town, treetop and countryside views.

All of the bedrooms and home office have a split system air conditioner, a 4kw solar panel system assists with energy costs.

Re-stumped, re-wired, re-plumbed, a new roof and gutters, painted inside and out, this charming home is better than new.

Positioned within walking distance of the town centre, railway station, schools and day care, the property could not be more convenient.

Number 21 Kraft Crescent Drouin is for sale negotiable over $350,000.
