Draft master plan developed for Garfield Recreation Reserve
Entrance relocation, playground replacement, lighting for an overflow training area and a community garden site are amongst works being considered at Garfield Recreation Reserve.
Cardinia Shire Council has developed a draft master plan for the reserve and is encouraging community feedback. Submissions close on Friday, November 13.
Short term works – one to three years – being considered include relocating the reserve entrance from Beswick St to Fourteen Mile Rd to reduce traffic congestion, improving public toilet pathways and ramps, installing a removable bollard or gate to limit vehicle access to the western side of the pool, installing pool information signage, creating a community garden, upgrading the skate park and installing new exercise equipment.
The need for a BMX track would be referred to the draft skate and BMX strategy.
It also urged user groups to consider additional shelters, renovating inside the pavilion and installation of seating at the netball courts.
Amongst medium term – three to five year – recommendations are potential football pavilion upgrade, embankment works at the netball courts to accommodate spectators, construction of a shelter at the tennis courts, bowling clubrooms upgrade, perimeter pathway construction, installation of lighting for an overflow training area and designating a dog off leash area.
Considering kiosk, timekeepers and scoreboard upgrade options is listed as a long term project – five plus years.
Cardinia Shire said master plans provide direction for future development of reserves. This draft has been created with consultation with the reserve committee and user groups.
The report states Cardinia Shire Council first began informal discussions with the committee of management in 2012/13.
“At the time, the reserve committee were keen to explore the possibility of relocating the dam at the reserve to make way for a larger secondary training area at the southern end of the reserve,” said the report. “Given the above and a number of other planned upgrades to the reserve, council began developing a master plan in 2014.”
