Gippsland Bulls on the charge

-

After a scheduled bye last week being filled with a strategic training run, the Gippsland Bulls girls were ready and raring to set some masterful plans in action.

Much like their first game the girls came out like a bull at a gate and it took less than a minute from the first whistle for the first shot to sail ever so close past the wrong side of the post.

For the next ten minutes the forwards peppered the rather vocal opposition goalie, who repelled everything the Bulls threw at her.

With such dominance in the game it came as quite a shock and maybe a lapse in concentration that saw Bayside enter their attacking ‘D’ for the first time and exit it moments later with a onenil lead.

A little bemused, the Bulls needed to refocus as they were now chasing the game.

Some great work from Robyn and Marg in the back line saw some impressive early reading of the play.

The ensuing interceptions quickly accumulated to a pressure the opposition could not withstand and Sarah Chandler finally found the net to level the score going into half time.

Whilst a few half time tweaks to the game plan may have fallen on deaf ears the girls started the second half in a similar fashion to the first.

This time however the forward surges proved much more fruitful.

After possibly being inspired by her other backs, youngster Olivia Donders surged past her opponent to make another intercept.

A quick pass through the midfield saw Sarah again with space and time to run. Once in the circle it was all a formality as she shot the ball past the goalie to snare her second and put the Bulls in front.

It wasn’t to stop there as some hard running and silky skills from Tanika and Gabriella helped set up Alice down the left base line.

A cross to usual suspect Sarah saw her finish of the play with a hat-trick.

A notable mention must go to the motherdaughter combination play, which saw Melissa narrowly miss after her daughter Bella threaded the ball through four players in the D to find her on the post.

With this and numerous other near misses for the half the girls finished off with a great 3-1 victory, their first for the season.

The club is always on the lookout for new players.
