Crows continue stellar start to season

- By Sam Laffy Longwarry (8-238) def. Jindivick (7-123)

Longwarry’s stellar start to season 2015/16 continued on Saturday with another big win, this time taking home a 115-run victory over Jindivick.

A host of excellent batting performances was again the hallmark, with Dale Serong belting 60, Tom Keily 53 and Sam Pullen 57.

This trio of half-centuries boosted the Crows to 8-238 with only Jordan Smith (3-31) able to restrict the batsmen.

In reply the Jumping Jacks were in disarray early with Troy Lehman removing both opening batsmen with the score still at 0, and from then on Jindivick were never in the hunt.

Jordan Larkman and Ian Berry both struck 31, but they couldn’t lift the total to any more than 7-123.

Titans discover mojo

Garfield-Tynong (4-155) def. Drouin (9-151)

Having found themselves on the receiving end of a disappointing loss last Sunday, Garfield-Tynong rediscovered their ‘mojo’ with a six-wicket win over Drouin.

The win came on the back of two stellar batting performances from the Tribe brothers, with Paul’s 48 the perfect foil to Shane’s unbeaten 75.

Jon Perry (2-15) did his best to restrict the chase, but the Tribe’s 111-run third wicket stand was too much for the Hawks.

Earlier in the day, Paul Timewell struck 31 opening up to lift Drouin to 9-151, with Daniel Savage and Matthew Maxwell’s hauls of 2-15 enough to keep the target to a manageable one.

Neerim’s first win

Neerim District (6-163) def. Hallora (120)

Neerim District claimed their first win of the summer with a 43run over Hallora, with the reigning division two premiers slumping to another loss.

For Neerim it was Ash Lockett who was the difference with the bat, belting 45 to lift his side to 6163 and a host of strong bowling performances bundled out the Kangaroos for 120.

Matt Ward (2-14 off eight), Matt Kelliher (2-29) and John Fleming (2-14 from four) were all stand-outs as Hallora’s batsmen struggled to get going.

Four made it past 10 but the highest score was only 18 to Tom Williams as they were dismissed in the 35th over.

Fawcett lifts Warriors

Western Park (0-119) def. Warragul (115)

Another dominant batting display from Dale Fawcett lifted Western Park to a big 10-wicket win over Warragul.

He smashed another boundaryladen half-century in an unbeaten century stand with partner in crime Paul McCluskey.

Chasing just 115, the pair chased down the runs in just 17.1 overs, with Fawcett finishing on 63* and McCluskey 46*.

Earlier in the day Toby Bransgrove’s haul of 5-23 kept Warragul’s total well down, with only Chris Blake’s 45 and Jarred Carroll’s 30 able to boost the total over 100.

The small confines of St. Paul’s proved no match for the experienced Western Park pair once they created some momentum, and carried the Warriors to their fourth win from six matches.
