80th craft and flower show

The 80th Poowong East Craft and Flower Show held recently at the Poowong East Hall raised $1530.

The show was officially opened by Baw Baw Shire president Peter Kostos.

Cr Kostos commented on the quality on show and compliment­ed the exhibitors.

Margaret Monk, who has been involved with flower show since attending as a child with her mother Mrs Allchin, did the honours of blowing out the candles on the 80th birthday cake.

For 70 years the flower show was organised by the Poowong East Red Cross which closed 10 years ago. But present day organisers were pleased to make a donation to Red Cross of $150 raised from the raffle.

People enjoyed the homemade luncheon and afternoon tea and bar and the warm weather allowed people to enjoy the picturesqu­e hall surrounds.

The various judges were amazed by the quality of art and craft.

Most successful exhibitor in cut flowers was Robyn Teare, champion exhibit cut flowers was won by Margaret Monk and champion rose was won by Ari Voss

Most successful exhibitor in floral art was Beryl Olsen

Champion needlework exhibit was won by Carol Summerfiel­d. Champion patchwork quilt was won by Alison Billing, while most successful needlework exhibitor was Gladys Smethurst.

In photograph­y most successful and champion exhibit of a secondary School student and open were all won by Hannah Blogg.

Primary school craftwork was won by Max O’Connor, while primary school floral art was won by Ebony Elliott.
