ALP launches campaign

-

Shadow attorney general Mark Dreyfus will officially launch the Labor party’s campaign for the seat of McMillan in Drouin tonight.

The official launch will be held at the Drouin Football Clubrooms at 6.30pm.

Local candidate Chris Buckingham will speak on what it will take to return the seat to Labor.

Mr Buckingham said he had been engaging with communities across the electorate since gaining endorsement from the Australian Labor Party in May.

He said the big issues in McMillan were employment stability, pressure on household budgets, confidence in the local economy and environmental concerns

Mr Dreyfus said he was confident Mr Buckingham understood the issues that matter to his local community and will be a powerful advocate for the election of a Shorten Labor Government.

“Chris Buckingham is a very strong local candidate. He is passionate about the region and will make an excellent member of parliament. I am very proud to support his campaign for the seat of McMillan,” Mr Dreyfus said.

“Chris brings energy, intelligence and commitment. He understands the issues that matter to his community and will be a terrific advocate both locally and in Canberra.”

Mr Buckingham said McMillan needed strong, positive leadership from a local representative who was prepared to argue the case for the community.

“The feedback from people right across the electorate is that they are ready for a change and they appreciate their local ALP candidate being active in the community.”

The launch will mark the beginning of Mr Buckingham’s campaign.

People interested in being a part of the campaign are welcome to attend. Cost of entry is $15 and light refreshments will be provided.
