Youth with strong theatre interests can apply for a grant to attend a nine-day residentia­l summer performing arts project in Yarragon.

This is an opportunit­y for local performers, aged 13 to 19 years, to get involved in the challengin­g and intensive Theatrecra­ft Youth Unlimited project for just half the normal cost.

The 10 selected youth from Baw Baw will join the eight-night and nineday residentia­l program to work with leading regional artists on a project involving a modern Australian script and a new work to be developed with local playwright Jeannie Haughton.

The summer performanc­e project will run from Saturday, January 9 to Sunday, January 17 at Allambee Camp, Yarragon. Performanc­es at West Gippsland Arts Centre on Saturday, January 16 will showcase pieces prepared during the project which will involve up to 50 young performers from across Victoria.

The opportunit­y follows Baw Baw Shire’s announceme­nt of a Community Developmen­t Grant to assist 10 young people attend this ambitious and challengin­g project. The Baw Baw Youth Theatre Delegates will contribute just $300 with the other half funded by the grant.

Delegates will also be required to report back to the community about their experience­s.

Considerat­ion of previous experience, proof of commitment to performing arts and level of motivation to attend will be considered by Warragul Youth Theatre’s Jo Draisma and project coordinato­r Joanne Watt.
