Youth with strong theatre interests can apply for a grant to attend a nine-day residential summer performing arts project in Yarragon.
This is an opportunity for local performers, aged 13 to 19 years, to get involved in the challenging and intensive Theatrecraft Youth Unlimited project for just half the normal cost.
The 10 selected youth from Baw Baw will join the eight-night and nineday residential program to work with leading regional artists on a project involving a modern Australian script and a new work to be developed with local playwright Jeannie Haughton.
The summer performance project will run from Saturday, January 9 to Sunday, January 17 at Allambee Camp, Yarragon. Performances at West Gippsland Arts Centre on Saturday, January 16 will showcase pieces prepared during the project which will involve up to 50 young performers from across Victoria.
The opportunity follows Baw Baw Shire’s announcement of a Community Development Grant to assist 10 young people attend this ambitious and challenging project. The Baw Baw Youth Theatre Delegates will contribute just $300 with the other half funded by the grant.
Delegates will also be required to report back to the community about their experiences.
Consideration of previous experience, proof of commitment to performing arts and level of motivation to attend will be considered by Warragul Youth Theatre’s Jo Draisma and project coordinator Joanne Watt.
Contact Joanne Watt at summerschool@theatrecraft.org.au or 0408 366 481 to be emailed registration forms and more detail of the application requirements.
All applications must be received no later than Monday, November 30 and successful applicants will be notified by phone.
