Longwarry squanders some early leads

Longwarry Bowling Club’s two Pennant teams had a disappoint­ing weekend with both teams well beaten.

Division two travelled to Morwell and lost all four rinks while division six played at Moe and lost both rinks.

Division 2: Longwarry 0/79 lost to Morwell 20/114.

Elio Meggetto, Reg Dunn, Hank Metselaar and Russell White (skip) lost to D. Cook’s team 22/25.

A good start saw Longwarry lead 13/5 on end 10 but by end 14 the scores were level at 14 all.

Morwell outscored Longwarry 11 shots to eight over the last 11 ends to get them over the line in a close game.

Eric Peterson, Peter Smethurst, Brian Hennessy and Barry White (skip) lost to S. Gillespie’s team 23/28.

Longwarry led 8/0 on end five but by the 10th end the scores were 11-all. Longwarry lost seven of the next eight ends to trail 14/24 on end 17, but fought back to trail 23/25 on end 23 before dropping the last two ends.

Mark Serong, Gerry Wakefield, Ken White and Gerard Mitchell (skip) lost to D. Dunstan’s team 18/31.

A close game early with Longwarry trailing 10/11 on end nine. Morwell gained the ascendancy and drew away for a good win.

Graham Sparks, Allan Peterson, Judy Eastwell and Trevor Eastwell (skip) lost to J. Osborne’s team 16/30.

Longwarry led 7/5 on end eight but Morwell outplayed them for the rest of the game.

Division 6: Longwarry (2) 0/39 lost to Moe (3) 10/56.

Sharon Twite, Eddie Bluck, Laurel Purvis and Robert Purvis (skip) lost to R. Jackson’s team 21/29.

Longwarry won 14 of the 25 ends but some big multiple scores by Moe, including two fives and a six, gave them a good win.

Don Collis, Peter Hengel, Bette Heatley and John Watts (skip) lost to W. Lock’s team 18/27.

An even game early saw Longwarry trail 7/8 on end eight. They lost nine of the next 11 ends to trail 11/25 on the 19th end. Longwarry finished well, winning four of the last six ends.
