Garfield fights all the way
Division 2: Garfield 2/86 lost to Traralgon (2) 18/90.
Steve Whyte (skip), Bob Clarke, Graham Burton and Gary Helmore lost to A. Moore’s team 16/21.
Garfield was down by four on the eighth but got within two just before the break. Traralgon won the next five ends but Garfield fought back picking up nine shots to four in the last eight ends to go down by five shots.
Steve Bassed (skip), Gary Payne, Ray Biffin and Stewie Gemmill lost to R. Baker’s team 17/26.
Garfield trailed 16/5 at smoko but after the break won five of the six ends to be within three on the 19th. Traralgon picked up the pace on the run home.
Tom Cleary (skip), Shane Oliver, Joe Lenders and Adrian Helmuth won 31/16.
Garfield led 8/1 on the fifth but Traralgon came back to be down by only four shots at smoko. Garfield won the last five ends and drew away for a great win.
Peter Lieshout (skip), Nick Henwood, Ron Saunders and Rod James lost to P. Mustoe’s team 22/27.
Garfield trailed 2/7 on sixth but picked up 10 shots in four ends to lead 12/10 on the tenth. Traralgon fought back to lead 19/13 on the 17th. Garfield got a five to be 18/19 down but Traralgon won eight shots to four in the last seven ends.
Division 5: Garfield (2) 14/80 defeated Trafalgar (3) 2/52.
Don knight (skip), Frank Prins, Cliff Stephens and John Van Schagen won 38/14.
Garfield led 13/1 on the sixth and 24/5 at the break. Trafalgar kept trying but Garfield won six of the last seven ends.
Les Pumphrey (skip), Wayne Gunton, Rod Hackett and Dean Humphreys lost 17/19.
Garfield led 11/6 at smoko but Trafalgar drew level at 12/12 on the 17th and level again on the 19th. Trafalgar won a hard-fought game.
Bob Lamport’s team led 16/7 at smoko but Trafalgar fought back and drew within three shots on the 20t. Garfield picked up seven shots to be 25/15 on the 22nd.Trafalgar won the last three ends but Garfield held on for a good win.
Division 6 West: Garfield (3) 2/46 lost to Warragul (5) 8/50.
Judy Pocklington (skip), Jan Johnson, Bev. Sainsbery and Ann Armstrong lost to A.Matthews’ team 21/31. Garfield was down 10/14 at smoko but picked up a five on the 15th to be down by only two shots. Warragul picked up six ends to Garfield’s four.
Maureen Lamport, Jill Rouse, Lexie Tayler and Keith Sainsbery won 25/19.Garfield led 17/6 at smoko. Both teams won six each after the break but Garfield only got four shots to Warragul’s eight.
