Staggering bowling display

-

launching into a punishing opening stand.

Although Kody Wilson (3-37) toiled away and found reward late, Luke Gilbert hammered home the advantage with a quick 47 not out, and by the end of the day Buln reached 4-185.

Bankers bounce back

Ellinbank (317) vs. Bunyip Having been bundled out for just 51 last weekend against Western Park, Ellinbank’s batsmen bounced back to form in amazing fashion against Bunyip.

The Bankers made their way to 317 and set the Bulls a tremendous task next Saturday.

What makes the innings even more astonishing is that they were at one stage 5-78 before the lower order counter-attacked in emphatic fashion.

Nick Stevenson and Brad Berry started the recovery with a 119-run sixth wicket stand, before Stevenson departed for 55, but that left Sean Masterson to smash a quick 59 and Tom Robertson a measured 28 to keep the runs flowing.

Berry’s contribution was 75 - a season’s best and career-best in division one cricket - and the Ellinbank captain’s knock ensured that Bunyip’s bowlers were forced to toil all day.

Sam McMillan (3-53) and Grant Agnoleto (2-48) were the pick of the bunch for the Bulls with the ball.

Parkers find form

Western Park (1-12) vs. Drouin (161) After rediscovering some form against Ellinbank last weekend, Western Park put in an encouraging performance against the reigning premiers on Saturday.

Western Park require another 149 runs for victory next weekend.

They will be ruing the fact that Damon Healy (42) and Dale Weller (26) were able to boost Drouin’s total with a seventh wicket stand of 61, especially after Chris Perry and Ryan Hendy’s early spells.

The Hawks duo enjoyed their time on the turf and their rescue effort was vital. They eventually reached 161 before being dismissed in the 64th over - the last three wickets falling for nothing and that left the Warriors with a tricky 12 over spell to negotiate.

Unfortunately for them Jason Croft wasn’t able to survive the night, but Jake Bargwanna and Sanjaya Gangodawila were able to knuckle down and carry Western Park to 1-12 at stumps.
