Barwick lifts Iona

- By Sam Laffy Iona (190) vs. Yarragon (3-57)

Jason Barwick’s excellent unbeaten 87 lifted Iona to 190 in their division three clash with Yarragon, and they were able to claim three wickets to put the Panthers on the back foot at the end of day one of proceedings.

The scoreboard at one stage read 3-8 and then 543, as Josh Harlow (3-52), John Buckland (3-53) and Oliver Watt (2-30) delivered early pressure but Michael Taylor, and then Barwick were able to fight back effectively.

Taylor’s half-century helped to lift the score to 87 before he was dismissed and Barwick then fought with the lower order to carry the score up to 190 before they were dismissed in the 54th over.

In reply, Yarragon were led by an aggressive 18 to Mark Boardman but Taylor followed up his batting with a haul of 2-28 to leave the Panthers 3-57 at stumps.

Parkers have momentum

Western Park (146) vs. Jindivick (1-25) A freak run-out removed Mark Robinson late in the day to hand Western Park some momentum heading into day two of proceedings, but Jindivick would be happy with their day, requiring only 122 to claim victory.

They were able to bowl Western Park out for 146 in the 58th over thanks to a marathon spell from Andrew Pyle (who bowled 24 overs on the trot on his way to a haul of 5-57) and he received great support from Dave Wagner and Ant Maguire.

Kirk Dalziell did his best to boost the score with 40, but lacked much support from the lower order.

Robinson made his way to 16 in reply, but a stop at short leg and quick shy at the stumps had him out in the last over of the day, with Stephen Briggs the man with the quick reflexes.

Gardiner boosts Drouin

Drouin (176) vs. Ellinbank (1-6) Chris Gardiner hit 48 at the top of the order to boost Drouin’s total against Ellinbank, before a late wicket well and truly handed the initiative to the Hawks.

Jakob Simpson was able to disturb the stumps of Lynn for just three in the first over of Ellinbank’s reply, and left them 1-6 in pursuit of 176.

Earlier in the day Gardiner was the shining light for Drouin, with only one other batsmen (Robert Simpson) able to make it to 20. Lachlan Pratt (3-13) and Notman (3-40) were the pick of the bowlers for the Bankers, but they are left with a tricky chase next weekend.

Bunyip in disarray

Buln (176) vs. Bunyip (4-34) Bunyip’s chase of 176 was left in disarray at stumps in their clash with Buln, falling to 4-34 in their tricky 18 over spell at the batting crease.

Sam Reid was the catalyst for the Lyrebirds - claiming 2-3 from his four overs - and he received great support from his teammates, with tremendous pressure applied to the Bunyip batsmen.

Earlier in the day, Mark Robjant struck a determined 87* to lift his side to 176, rescuing the innings with a 61-run ninth wicket stand with Reid that helped the innings recover after Scott Squires (4-46) wreaked havoc early on.
