Kangas find form

Hallora (8-212) vs. Longwarry Hallora’s form in division two has been ordinary this season, and Longwarry virtually unstoppable but the Kangaroos have set their opponents a challenging total in their clash, making their way to 8-212 at the end of day one of proceedings.

The innings was set up thanks to a boundary-laden half-century from Grant Duncan, with the middle order bat fighting back after Troy Lehman (3-49) and Aaron Thomas (3-43) had reduced the score to 4-28 early on.

Brian McDonald provided excellent support with a measured 37, and Sam Cheeseman and Dave Youlden’s twin unbeaten 31’s boosted the score late as the Crows bowlers were forced to work hard for their wickets.

Longwarry’s batsmen have been posting huge totals and will enter the chase as favourites, but Hallora have ensured it will be a fight thanks to their dedicated performance.

Jindi in control

Neerim District (110) vs. Jindivick (1-32)

Some excellent bowling from Jindivick’s seamers helped them bundle Neerim District out for 110 in their encounter, with the Jumping Jacks requiring just 79 more to claim victory.

Luke Hume (4-19 from 10.5) and Ian Berry claimed early wickets to put Neerim on the back foot at 4-23 and the pressure continued from the likes of Jordan Smith and Jordan Larkman and it proved too much for their opponents.

Only 25 to Rhys George and 27 to David Ferguson helped boost the score over 100, before Neerim were dismissed in the 52nd over.

Left with 15 overs to face out, the Jumping Jacks lost Rory Payne for five - caught off Marc Pinkerton, but Magnusson (10*) and Larkman (17*) were solid up until stumps, reaching 1-32 at the end of the day’s play.

Parkers disappoint

Western Park (103) vs. Drouin (132)

A disappointing batting performance from Western Park has handed Drouin the upper hand in their clash, with the Hawks requiring just another 71 runs for victory.

It was a collapse of 7-29 that decimated the Warriors innings, with Jon Perry (3-27 from 18.4 disciplined overs) and Harry Wans (4-14 off 10) the main beneficiaries with the ball.

Up to that stage, handy knocks of 18 to Joel Batson and 26 to Angus Geals had helped Western Park recover from the loss of Fawcett, McCluskey and Wakefield early in the day.

Once the wickets started falling however there was little they could do to stem the flow, and were out for 103 in the 56th over.

Left with 11 overs to face out, Drouin lost Sam Wyatt for eight - caught off the bowling of Geals - but Paul Timewell’s 21 not out ensured they reached stumps at 1-32.
