- By Davyd Reid

Warragul District Cricket Association scored a big win over Central Gippsland at Eastern Park on Sunday as the under 16 Gippsland Cricket League season continued.

Winning the toss and electing to bat, captain Kim Drew joined Aidan Phillips in an opening partnership of 67 to help the Wild Dogs make a positive start.

Caleb Serong (57) and Rhys George (run out for 31) steadied after a middle order collapse with a partnership of 77, helping the Wild Dogs post 8/200 from their allotted 50 overs.

Backing up from his sensational effort of 8/8 the previous day in the local competition, Davis McConnell struck early to have Central Gippsland one down without score.

Disciplined bowling from the Wild Dogs attack throughout the innings restricted Central Gippsland to 7/129.

Wickets were shared between seven bowlers, with McConnell, James Ireland, Phillips, Drew, Jonah Serong, Will Robertson and Joel Batson sharing the spoils.

The win ensured the Wild Dogs held top spot on the ladder and remain on track to qualify for the final.

The Wild Dogs will face Traralgon in the final round on Sunday, December 13.

Other GCLgrades will resume on Sunday, November 29 with thje senior teams desperately chasing wins.

The senior team will host Leongatha at Western Park searching for its first win.

With Leongatha just above it on the ladder, the Wild Dogs will fancy their chances at home.

Traralgon lead the table with two wins, followed by three teams with one win apiece.

The Wild Dogs will need to win to be any hope of advancing to the final.

The women will also aim to recapture form and take their first win.

The Hot Shots will fancy themselves at home against a Bairnsdale side who are also yet to taste victory.

The under 18 team will look to build on its positive start when they take on Leongatha at Eastern Park.

The Wild Dogs have taken the points in both its matches to date and, like their under 16 counterparts, remain on track to qualify for the final. K. Borsato - Ygn 7/75 N. MacFarlane - Wgl6/60 M.
