Retain donated parkland

-

I write as a very concerned resident of Trafalgar opposing a recommendation to the Baw Baw Shire to undertake subdivision of precious open green space between Edwards Crescent and Cross Street Trafalgar.

This 7800m section of community open space forms part of a vital linear reserve; in close proximity to both the primary and secondary schools. A major water and gas easement also runs along this linear parkland.

This open land was donated; yes, donated by the original farmer to the previously named Narracan Shire.

This land was to be kept as public space for the residents of Trafalgar.

It is appalling to contemplate the Baw Baw Shire profiting from such a generous and valued donation.

This land is well utilized by all demographics of our community and it offers a safe and direct access for our children to and from their schools.

This open land is constantly used for recreational purposes and physical activity. It has developed into a vital community space and even used for family Christmas and Boxing Day gatherings and family sporting events.

In this era of knowledge and awareness of the impact of development on the environment, surely it would be ludicrous of the Baw Baw Shire to work in reverse; use parkland for housing.

Green spaces in our town are few and far between, so therefore, working against what is best for the environment would certainly not be in the best interests of an innovative shire council. Lucy O’Connell Trafalgar cancer, testicular cancer, ovarian and breast cancer.

Bearing all this in mind, I sincerely hope more farmers follow Adam Nelson.s lead and walk away from dairy farming. Jenny Moxham Monbulk business district does not have a defibrillator in case of an emergency (please do not use the excuse that we are close to the hospital).

Neerim South to my knowledge has at least four and I believe Drouin also has public access.

What we need is for the Baw Baw Shire to purchase these life saving devices and put them where the public can access them in case of an emergency.

We should also have a comprehensive list of where they are all located in the Baw Baw Shire. Lee Pattinson Vesper Do we want the same thing to happen in Australia? If not, then we have to say a resounding no to same sex marriage. Roger Marks Drouin
