Eisteddfod entries still open
Entries are now being accepted for the 23rd Annual West Gippsland Music & Drama Eisteddfod season to be held from 22nd July to 14th August 2016 at various venues in Warragul.
The Eisteddfod offers performance opportunities for amateurs and students in the disciplines of Piano, Instrumental, Choral, Bands, Classical and Modern Vocal, Speech & Drama and the Gippsland Parasteddfod.
In addition to the usual program of events, some exciting new sections are available for performers this year.
The Instrumental discipline’s Rock Bands sections, which were very successfully introduced last year, have been expanded to include three sections – Primary School age, Secondary School age, and Open age.
Rock bands with or without vocalists can enter for some performance practice and receive valuable written comments from a qualified adjudicator.
An important change in our rules this year will now allow Vocal Groups in the District Primary School Vocal Group section to use a Backing Track in place of an accompanist for their performance; this change will allow groups who aren’t able to provide an accompanist to still be eligible to participate and perform.
VCE students studying Music Performance or Music Investigation once again have the opportunity to enter into dedicated VCE sections in Piano, Instrumental and Modern Voice.
The Speech & Drama discipline will be again offering Public Speaking sections, for both Prepared Speech and Impromptu, which were highly well received when introduced last year, along with Free Verse sections which can include rap or slam poetry.
Organisers are delighted to offer the Gippsland Parasteddfod discipline, now in its fifth year.
The Parasteddfod is a non-competitive discipline for performers with a disability and is an extremely successful and enjoyable part of the Eisteddfod season.
New volunteers are always needed and there are many interesting roles required to be filled. Contact the Secretary, David Steele enquiries@wge.org.au in the first instance.
As a community group, the Eisteddfod is reliant on community support and sponsorship.
The Eisteddfod is grateful for all sponsorship and acknowledges its major sponsors, Drouin & District Community Bank, Baw Baw Shire Council and Creative Victoria.
Entries to perform in the Eisteddfod are open now but close on 5th June.
