West Gippsland Orchid Club

-

A good number of club members attended the May 5 meeting to hear guest speaker Peter Miller of “The Hanging Garden”.

Peter spoke about growing orchids on cork and tree fern slabs.

He showed a variety of digital photographs and also brought along a large number of different orchids to show and sell.

On May 15, 20 club members enjoyed visits to three different orchid houses enjoying a relaxed way of learning about orchid culture, asking questions, taking photos and getting to know other members in the club as well.

More Orchid House visits are planned for June.

The next meeting will be held on Thursday and the guest speaker will be taxidermist Gary Pegg.

Gary has been heard by a number of club members whilst attending another orchid club evening and they report he is very interesting.

Though this has nothing to do with orchid growing, it is going to be an interesting subject which promises to be entertaining.

As with each meeting night, plants will be judged, prizes awarded and the raffle will be drawn after the guest speaker.

Section winners will be announced for orchids brought along and the lucky tickets will be drawn.

This will be followed by supper and a catch-up chat with friends.

An invitation is extended to anyone from the public interested in orchid culture or taxidermy to come along to the meeting at the Drouin Scout Hall where you will be made most welcome.

The hall will be opened at 7pm so that orchids can be placed on the bench for judging and the meeting will begin at 8pm.
