Goon clear in top six

Nar Nar Goon moved a game clear inside the top six with a big win over Poowong, 25-6 (156) to 51 (31).

The Goon opened up a six goal lead in the first term and were never headed, adding a further five goals in the second term to remain in control.

Eight goals in the third term saw the margin blow out to three figures and the Goon didn’t let up, adding a further six goals in the final quarter.

Luke McConnell and Nicholas Henwood both bagged five goals, with Trent Armour, Richard Manley and Matthew Stevens each chipping in with three majors.

Dwayne Scott, Clint Williams and Chris Adams were also prominent.

Poowong was best served by Josh Chiavaroli, Lachlan Green, Josh Harvey, Tim Hancock, Jeremy Aitken and Ashley Bunn.

Goon too strong

Nar Nar Goon were also strong winners in the Reserves, 13-16 (94) to 1-2 (8).

The Goon kicked five goals to one in the first term and were never headed, restrictin­g the Magpies to just two behinds from that point.

Kayne Somers kicked four goals, while Jackson Fromhold, Luke Dovaston, Mitchell Poels, Daniel Mason and Broderick Selby also played well.

Drew Leeds, John Smith, Scott Loughridge, Kierley Waetford, Jimmy Foster and Steven Miekle were the better players for Poowong.

Magpies struggle

Nar Nar Goon began its clean sweep over a struggling Poowong with a comfortabl­e victory in the under 16s, 13-13 (91) to 3-4 (22).

The Magpies were able to hold Goon for brief periods in the first and fourth quarters, but couldn’t sustain it as the Goon built a solid lead.

Cooper Hampton was best on ground with five goals. He was backed up by Ethan O’Hoy, Isaac Missen, Cameron Swindle-Turpin and Lachlan Motta.

Mitchell Van’T Hoff, Josh McNally, Brodie Ardley, Kaden Fullerton and Lachlan De Kleuver battled on for Poowong.
