Buln on improve

Buln Buln showed its young side is on the improve with a comfortabl­e win over Longwarry, 14-12 (96) to 5-5 (35).

The Lyrebirds held a narrow 11 point advantage at quarter time, but restricted the Crows to just five behinds in the next half of football to set up the strong win.

The Crows saved some face by winning the last quarter, but it wasn’t enough as the Lyrebirds comfortabl­y recorded their third win of the season.

Jack Nuttall kicked three goals while Jake Herbel also featured among the better players, but it was the experience­d players who stood out for the Lyrebirds including Bryce Monahan, Mitch Nobelius, Dylan Farrell and James Davidson.

Jedd Serong kicked three goals for Longwarry, while Josh Bourke, Nathan Sullivan, Brody Hamilton, Ken Towt and Chris Karlis were also prominent.

Crows win thriller

Longwarry won a thrilling Reserves match by a point, 9-6 (60) to 9-5 (59).

The Crows started stronger to take an 18 point lead into half time, but the Lyrebirds hit back to close the gap and bring the result down to the dying stages.

Dylan Serong booted five goals for Longwarry, while Toby Bransgrove kicked four majors at the other end in an enthrallin­g contest.

Anthony Stevens, Ryan Wouters, Sam Batchelor, John Werner and Jake Tabone kept cool heads when it mattered most for Longwarry.

Paul Willis, Ryan Bishop, Reece Campbell, Nicholas and Jarrod Castle pressed hard for Buln Buln.

Travel rewarded

Buln Buln’s under 16 team travelled to Catani and were rewarded with the four points, winning 11-9 (75) to 2-5 (17).

The Lyrebirds were slow to get going, leading by just six points at half time, but powered away in the second half to record a strong victory.

The visitor kicked seven goals in the final quarter to put the result beyond question.

Mitchell Leek continued his good form in front of goal, finishing with seven majors.

Other better players were Eamon Brew, Haydn Burke, Eric Ceron, Max Phillips and Jack Chesterfie­ld were the other better players.

Catani were best served by Ryan Hanegraaf, Jack Louden, Ryan Smith, Cameron Stephenson, Mathew Burr and Lauchlan Gregson.
