Colts take it to Seaford
The Warragul Colts played Seaford for the second time in the Victorian Women’s Football League at Eastern Park on Saturday.
Last game the Colts were convincingly beaten by over 100 points and the Colts women were out to make amends in wet muddy conditions.
The Colts put in a much better performance to go down 19-9 (69) to 8-7 (55).
The Colts didn’t waste any time and were able to get the ball out the centre quickly to boot three goals early and able to keep the ball down in their forward 50, giving the Colts a 13 point lead at quarter time.
In the second quarter the Tigers came out firing with a fast paced game.
The Colts defence was working overtime with Seaford kicking four goals to one giving the visitors a six point lead at the major change.
The Colts regrouped for the third and it was a hard fought match between the two sides, the ball moving back and forward between the two forward lines with the Colts kicking three majors for a two point lead at the final change.
Both sides were now tired in what has been a big running game in wet muddy conditions.
The Colts needed a big quarter to keep off a fast finishing Seaford side and it was looking like it going to go down to the wire.
The Colts put in a big effort with Seaford getting the ball down their forward line numerous times and locking it in. The Colts defence was working overtime, preventing numerous goals by seaford but still able to manage three goals to the Colts single goal for the term, giving Seaford the win by 14 points.
It was a fantastic team effort by the Colts, who will go into next week’s game against Hallam at Eastern Park next Saturday starting at 1.30pm full of confidence.
The Colts have not played Hallam and will go into this game as favourites.
