New head for regional library
The West Gippsland Regional Library Corporation (WGRLC) Board has appointed Leanne Williams as chief executive officer, following an extensive selection process.
Leanne is a chartered accountant who most recently worked as manager of corporate services at Alpine Shire Council.
“Leanne brings a breadth of experience to the corporation and we’re delighted to welcome her to the organisation and to the region as a whole,” West Gippsland Regional Library Corporation chairman Cr Mikaela Power said.
“In her previous role at Alpine Shire Council, Leanne managed the council’s branch libraries and processing hub, which provides library services to three neighbouring municipalities.
“This experience has provided Leanne with a strong understanding of the important role that public libraries play in the community.
“As CEO, Leanne’s goal is to enhance the availability and diversity of technology within our libraries and maintain a feeling of warmth, connectedness and inclusion.
“Leanne will commence on December 19, and is looking forward to getting out and meeting library staff and patrons and listening to their ideas about how our libraries can be as vibrant as possible,” Cr Power said.
Leanne is replacing WGRLC CEO of 19 years John Murrell, whodied on June 5.
She grew up in North East Victoria on a sheep farm before moving to Canberra to undertake a bachelor of business and commerce.
Leanne then moved to Albury where she completed her graduate diploma of chartered accounting and worked as an auditor for six years. Leanne began working in local government in 2010 and has experience in economic development, risk, governance and most recently, corporate services.
Leanne is married with three children, Henry (5), Madeleine (3) and Charlotte (1).
