Breakfast for Australia Day

-

Preparations are underway for the celebration of Australia Day in Drouin on Thursday, January 26.

The day will begin with the 38th Australia Day Breakfast commencing at 7.30am in the Anglican Parish Hall in Princes Way, which is a free event, but for which bookings are essential and are now open.

Seats at the breakfast may be reserved by ringing 5624 2411 or calling in at the Drouin Civic Centre. Bookings close on January 20, or when fully booked.

The breakfast is conducted by the Drouin Rotary Club on behalf of the Baw Baw Shire Council, with catering provided by the Drouin Branch of the Country Women’s Association (CWA).

This year’s guest speaker will be well-known local identity Judy Farmer whose topic will be “If only the trees could talk”, referring to the bountiful provision of trees for which Drouin is noted. Entertainment will be provided by the Warragul Brass Ensemble.

Later in the day, at 4pm in the sound shell in Civic Park, Alan Tatlow’s Stump Jump Band and guest performers will be providing musical entertainment through until 8.30pm, during which time, the combined Drouin service clubs (Apex, CWA, Lions and Rotary) have arranged a free evening of entertainment, displays and demonstrations, with the traditional sausage sizzle at 6pm.

With financial support from Baw Baw Shire and the Drouin and District Community Bank, additional features have been arranged for this event, including a jumping castle and small animal farm. There will be an Australia Day poster competition for primary school children about which information is being sent to schools.
