Festival goers can breathe easy

-

Beyond the Valley festival goers needn’t be too worried when they’re pulled over for a breath test on New Year’s Eve.

The tests will be offered free by crew from the Vanessa fleet, the youth arm of the Transport Accident Commission, who will be encouraging festival goers to stay safe.

The Vanessa fleet’s Mini V will be based at Lardner Park during the festival.

TAC road safety manager Samantha Buckis said planning a safe way home was imperative for festival goers.

“We want everyone at Beyond the Valley to have a great time, but more importantly to make good choices and arrive home safely.

“We know ticketholders will be making their plans for the festival, and if that plan involves drinking then it needs to include a safe way home.”

She said any level of alcohol in a person’s system impaired their ability to drive safely and the best bet was to separate drinking from driving altogether.

“If you’re heading to the festival and intend on having a couple of drinks, it’s best to make a plan on how you’re getting home before you leave for Lardner.”

Vanessa staff in the camp grounds will provide free breath tests and prizes to designated drivers and those who have planned a safe way home.

Drivers will be able to relax in beanbags, listen to curated playlists and take advantage of free breath tests at the Vanessa ‘rest-stops’ before getting behind the wheel on New Year’s Day.
